RAWCS Project 140-2010-11
Sponsored by the Rotary E-Club Serving Humanity, D9705
To provide education and support to 40 impoverished Cambodian children and young people with a disability in Stung Mean Chey, Phnom Penh.
To work in collaboration with Cambodian colleagues in identifying appropriate resources that meet the needs of cognitively and/or multiply impaired children and young people. To fund specialised rehabilitative equipment and individual and group physical resources to meet the learning needs of cognitively and/or multiply impaired children and young people and to fund and prepare requested teaching resources. The children and young people with a disability require intensive support, and without targeted funding, will not have access to the resources necessary to accommodate their disabilities. The provision of appropriate resources will assist these children to participate in everyday activities within mainstream society.
Continue to regularly engage and communicate with staff who work in the Adapted Teaching Section to ensure the provision of appropriate resources, which are targeted to meet the everyday needs of students and teachers. Where appropriate, we will continue to engage with professionals in the disability sector to obtain advice about the most appropriate resources currently available.
By providing the necessary resources to support their program, these disabled children and young people will be able to participate in education with the same educational opportunities and choices as all other students. With accessible and appropriate resources, the children and young people will experience success in terms of gaining increased independence and a sense of achievement. The overarching goal is for disabled Cambodian children and young people to reach their fullest potential and to become as independent as possible through participation in activities in everyday life in Cambodia.
